Toronto Vinyl Painting Process

Step 1 - Masking Vinyl Siding & Windows for Painting

The first step of painting vinyl surfaces is to mask and protect the surrounding areas. Our painters typically spray these surfaces so we must ensure that the surrounding areas are covered from over spray. Homes in Toronto are tight, that means we have to protect your neighbour's property, cover the floors with drop cloths, tape/cover window panes, cover areas around windows and siding with paper or plastic.

Step 2 - Cleaning Vinyl Surfaces Prior to Painting

Vinyl surfaces are very slick and fussy. To ensure proper adhesion, they must be completely clean. Our team typically pressure wash vinyl siding and clean vinyl windows by hand using a TSP detergent. This is then followed up a wipe down using acetone to remove grease and other potential contaminants

Step 3 - Spraying, Unmasking & Clean up

After all the difficult prep-work is done, our painters carefully spray on 2 coats of paint. Vinyl surfaces are very slick and show imperfections. A spray application avoids brush/roller marks and ensure the surfaces look factory finished.

Once the vinyl  have been sprayed, we must unmask all of the surfaces. This might sound simple, but we cannot just simply rip off all of he tape, plastic and paper. We must do it slowly and use a razor along the edges to ensure that any "bridging" is cut so that the tape does not pull off the paint while it is being removed.

Our Reviews

5/5

Sally Brae

My husband and I were extremely pleased with our deck staining project this past July 2024. The job was led by Yogi, who I learned is a partner to Vincent in this company. I cannot praise this young man enough!! He came to my house 1 day after I first contacted them to give me an in person quote. He was extremely courteous and professional at all times and made me (a female senior citizen) feel very comfortable. Yogi showed up with his team on our agreed upon date and began the project. Our house is a raised bungalow so the deck is elevated, supported by 3 large posts and a staircase leading down to the yard. The deck is approximately 10 yrs. old and had been stained before so the first step was power washing everything. Upon completion, we had to wait a few days for the wood to thoroughly dry before sanding could commence. The sanding took the longest; every board, railing, post, stair was completely sanded down to the natural wood. (See photo). There were 3 workers here at all times throughout this process and we were impressed by how well they cleaned everything up at the end of each day. Yogi led the team and kept us informed at every juncture. We ultimately chose the “Pecan” semi transparent stain for our deck color and we love it! It is a rich brown (not too dark) and we have received several compliments on our choice. Two coats of stain were applied and our deck is now refreshed and beautiful. We absolutely recommend this company for any of your needs with special acknowledgement and praise for Yogi. Much gratitude. (Project completed July 2024 in Pickering, On.)

FAQ About Painting Vinyl Siding & Windows

Q: How long will painted vinyl last?

Painted vinyl in Toronto usually last around 5 years before they start to peel or need a maintenance coat. However, this depends on many factors such as the amount of sun and weather exposure. Vertical surfaces that are covered or shaded tend to last longer than surfaces which are uncovered and facing the sun.

Q: Can I paint my vinyl black or a dark colour?

A: The short answer is yes you can paint your vinyl black or a dark colour. We use a specialty paint called RennerPlast which is purpose-made for vinyl (the same stuff they use in the factory). This paint will NOT cause the vinyl to warp even if you are painting it black.

Vinyl is sensitive to sunlight because the surface can heat up depending on the colour. The reason many people say that you cannot paint vinyl dark/black is because the vinyl will absorb too much light, heat up and warp or fail. This is true for most types of paint. HOWEVER, we use RennerPlast which is a special paint that will not cause warping.

Q: Why should you spray vinyl siding/windows rather than brushing and rolling the paint on?

A: There are two main benefits of painting your vinyl siding & windows via spray application rather than brushing & rolling.

  • The first benefit is that spraying results in a smoother & better appearance than brushing/rolling. A sprayer can apply paint with minimal texture which results in an almost factory-finished appearance. Brushing & rolling on paint can result in heavy texture, especially on hot days when the paint dries quickly with no time to smoothen out.

  • The second benefit is durability. The best current vinyl paint available in Toronto (2026) is RennerPlast. This paint is a two-part product which is designed to be sprayed. If you use a paint which can be brush/rolled, it will not last as long.

Q: How much does it cost to paint vinyl siding & windows in Toronto?

A: As of 2026 in Toronto, to paint vinyl windows & siding, it costs about $200/ vinyl window and $2/sf of vinyl siding. The price of painting vinyl in Toronto varies due to factors such as ease of access, total area and surface conditions. There are project minimums (it will cost more than $200 to spray a single window) and larger projects scale better (the unit price will decrease with larger projects).

Q: Do you prime vinyl surfaces before you paint?

A: The two types of paint we use can be applied directly to vinyl or aluminum. Priming is optional with these products.

Q: Do you have a warranty on your work?

A: We guarantee all of our exterior work for 2 years except for horizontal surfaces that are walked on (ex, floors) and cauling. If anything peels prematurely, we will come back and fix it.

Q: Does your company have liability insurance?

A: Our company has up to $2,000,000 in liability insurance.
